Day One
Airport-Tirane. Meat the group at “Mother Teresa" airport and Transfer to Tirana in Hotel. Pending on the arrival time, it starts with a half-day city tour of the capital: the National History Museum followed by a stop at the Mosque of Et`hem Bey built in 1830. The Opera House (National Theater of Opera and Ballet) looks over the Scanderbeg Square. A walk in the main boulevard provides a close sight of the City Hall and a number of Governmental buildings, on both sides. You cannot miss the National Gallery of Arts along this walk. In the evening, a visit to the former Communist Residential area, with modern bars, restaurants and pubs where the populated by different age groups, especially Albanian youth. Day Two
Tirane-Durres. After breakfast, the group finishes the sight visit of Tirana and departs for Durres by taking the highway, 30 km drive. The coastal city, the second largest city to Tirana and the most important sea port of Durres was first known in 627 BC by the name of Epidamnus and later on as Dyrracium. According to the legend, it was founded by the Illyrian King Epidamnus who gave the city his own name and the called the port area after his son Dyrrah. For many centuries, Dyraah war the largest port on the Adriatic and the start of Via Egnatia to Constantinople. The tour proceeds to the Archeological Museum, visit of the Fortress, with a prominent Venetian Tower dating back from the 4th and 5th Century BC; the Amphitheatre (one of the biggest in the Balkan Peninsula and most exquisite monuments that has survived from the ancient city. It was built in the 2nd century A.C during the Roman period. According to the records, the amphitheatre was very big and could sit 15.000 spectators). Dinner at a restaurant on the sea side. Overnight at the hotel in Durres.
Day Three
Durres-Berat-Elbasan. After breakfast, the bus departs for Berat. The ride is about two hours long, on a newly constructed road, along green valleys. As you approach the centre of the city you will be impressed by the period houses. Berat is one of the most important Museum Town of Albania, and sometimes called 'the city of a thousand windows' for the position of the houses on the hill. Visit to the castle, built up on a rocky hill 260m above the sea level. Churches here have survived within its powerful stony walls. The church, which preserves wooden-engraved iconostasis and houses the Onufri Museum, is one of the highlights and of great interest of thousands of visitors over the years. Visit to the other sites: Lead Mosque, Bachelor’s Mosque, Gorica Bridge and many dwelling houses of the 18th and 19th centuries. The tour will also include a stop at local winery for a taste of the Albanian wines. Departure for Elbasan, drive along the Shkumbini River, with panoramic views of green fields. Check in at the Hotel in Elbasan. Elbasan has an ancient history. It was also one of the most important industrial areas during the communist times. Visit of the Elbasan Castle, site of ancient Skampa. Excavations suggest that the walls of Elbasan Castle were built in the first half of the fourth century AD. In 1466 Sultan Mohammed II rebuilt the walls and renamed the town El Basan “The Fortress” in Turkish. Dinner at the Hotel with traditional cuisine.
Day Four
Elbasan-Pogradec-Korce. After breakfast at the hotel, following travel to Pogradec. We drive 80 km in a beautiful road through mountains and green hills to Pogradec. Proceed to Pogradec in a panoramic tour and visit Pogradec city, which is one of the most charming tourist resorts in Albania because of its position on Lake Ohrid which is, distinguished itself for clear water and mountain views, and the Alcoran fish, unique specific of this lake in the world. A city with originates from the Century V, BC. The Illyrians wracks, the old patristic of Century V and four monumental graves that date back from the Century III BC. These monuments are digged up during the archeological excavations in Selca, the residence of Illyrian King, Klit. After a travel 35 km on a road newly built, European standard, we arrived Korca. A walk around the city will provide a nice picture of Korce. Dinner at a local restaurant with Korca serenade live music. Overnight in Korca.More about: Pogradec, Korce
Day Five
Korca-Tirana. After breakfast at the hotel, visit the Museum of Medieval Arts and the Mosque of Mirahori, one of the oldest in the country built in 1469, visits to the Orthodox Cathedral, the Bazaar and the Museum of the First Albanian School will follow. After lunch we begin the travel to Tirana. In four hours with a stop for coffee, we arrive Tirana. Diner at a restaurant with live music, overnight in hotel
Day Six
Tirane-Airport. As time available before departure for the Airport, last sight visits of Tirana. Transferring to the Airport.
